Senior Dog Grooming: How We Keep It Calm and Safe

A calm senior dog resting after a gentle groom at Sun City Grooming

If your dog is getting older, grooming day can feel different than it used to. Stiff joints, thinner skin, and fading sight or hearing all change what a calm, safe groom looks like. At Sun City Grooming, senior and anxious dogs aren’t the exception — they’re what we’re known for. Here’s how we approach it.

We work at your dog’s pace

There’s no stopwatch. If your dog needs a break, they get one. If they get too stressed, we slow down or stop — we never force a groom. For arthritic or stiff dogs, we help them on and off the table gently, and there’s a cage-free “social floor” where they can wait among other dogs instead of sitting in a kennel.

Gentle products for older, sensitive skin

Older skin is thinner and more delicate, so we use soft brushes, take extra care around any matting, and reach for organic, non-animal-tested shampoos made for sensitive skin — no dyes or perfumes.

If your dog is older or a little anxious, that’s exactly what we’re here for. Give us a call at 623-440-4595 and tell us about your pet.
